I recently returned from a much needed break on the beautiful island of Maui. We stayed with friends in the upcountry town of Makawao, which gave us a different perspective from our previous beach resort stays. We did less beach time and more exploring, and we had a grand time! Maui (and the Hawaiian Islands in general) is a land of amazing contrasts. Many states can say the same, but in the islands, there is tremendous diversity of landscape in a very small area. I had fun putting together some diptychs showing just a few of the contrasts–the arid landscape of Haleakala and the dense jungle near Ohe’o Gulch, and the two sides of the road to Hana, the drier side on the Pi’ilani Highway and the much wetter Hana side on the road back to Pa’ia.
Showing contrasts makes for a fun photography outing. If anyone wants to share theirs, post a link in the comments. I would love to see them!
